Aurora sprawls east across Arapahoe, Adams, and a sliver of Douglas County, which puts most of the city out on open ground with little tree cover to slow incoming weather. That exposure matters: Front Range hailstorms and the dry-line winds that roll off the eastern plains hit Aurora's neighborhoods hard, and the relentless high-altitude sun bakes south- and west-facing slopes year after year.
