Is a Steel Roof Worth It in Colorado?
For many Front Range homes, yes. A professionally installed steel roof typically lasts 40–70 years — two to three asphalt roofs — sheds snow well, resists wind, and can carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating. It costs more upfront than shingles, and large hail can leave cosmetic dents, so it's best for owners planning to stay long-term.
Steel roofing has moved well past barns and mountain cabins. Today's residential systems come in low-profile standing seam panels and steel shingles that look like shake, slate or tile — with factory paint finishes that hold their color under high-altitude UV.
Steel roof systems we install
- Standing seam steel — concealed-fastener panels with raised seams. Clean, modern lines, no exposed screws to back out, and the best choice for solar.
- Steel shingles and shakes — interlocking steel panels shaped like traditional roofing, for homes and HOAs that want a classic look.
- Stone-coated steel — steel with a granular stone finish that hides dents and quiets rain. See our stone-coated steel page.
- Exposed-fastener panels — for outbuildings, shops, barns and porches.
Built for Front Range conditions
We specify panel gauge, finish and underlayment for your location: heavier gauges for high-hail neighborhoods, high-temperature underlayment under dark panels, and snow-retention systems over entries and walkways where sliding snow is a hazard. Panels are installed to the manufacturer's specification to keep the material and finish warranties intact, and every job carries our Lifetime Workmanship Warranty.
Hail and insurance
Many steel panels earn a UL 2218 Class 4 rating, meaning they won't crack or puncture under the standard impact test. Large hail can still leave cosmetic dents, and some Colorado policies exclude cosmetic damage on metal roofs. Read your policy — or ask us to walk through it — before you choose.
