What Is a Stone-Coated Steel Roof?
A stone-coated steel roof is made from galvanized or Galvalume® steel panels coated in acrylic and bonded stone granules. It looks like shake, tile or architectural shingles, weighs a fraction of tile, and many systems — such as DECRA® — carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, making it one of the most hail-resistant roofs available on the Front Range.
If you like the idea of metal's durability but not the look of standing seam, stone-coated steel is the answer. The stone chips give the panels a traditional texture, quiet rain and hail noise, and — most importantly in Colorado — visually hide the small dents that hail can leave on smooth metal.
Profiles we install
- Shake — the rustic look of wood shake without the fire risk or maintenance.
- Tile — Spanish or barrel-tile styling at a fraction of concrete tile's weight, often without structural upgrades.
- Shingle — a laminated architectural-shingle look that blends into most neighborhoods and HOAs.
We install stone-coated steel systems from established manufacturers such as DECRA®, fastened to battens or directly to the deck per the manufacturer's instructions for high-wind, high-snow regions.
Who it's best for
Homeowners in repeat-hail neighborhoods who are tired of filing claims, foothills homes facing wildfire and wind exposure, and anyone who wants a tile or shake look without the weight. It costs more than asphalt shingles, but lasts far longer.
